Luke Sheppard Director

Luke Sheppard studied drama at the University of Bristol and subsequently won the inaugural Noël Coward Trainee Director Award to train at Salisbury Playhouse. He participated in the National Theatre Studio Directors Course was selected as one of the creatives for the Old Vic T S Eliot UK/US Exchange.

As well as In the Heights at Southwark Playhouse (where he has just opened Casa Valentina), other recent projects include: Oliver! at the Watermill Theatre and the world premiere of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4 at Leicester Curve, currently nominated for a UK Theatre Award.

Further theatre as director includes: Next Fall (Southwark Playhouse); The Adventures of Pinocchio and The Hundred and One Dalmatians (Castle Theatre); The History Boys, The Wind in the Willows, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Fantastic Mr Fox (Wilde Theatre); Happy Never After (Pleasance); From Up Here (Perfect Pitch and Digital Theatre); Bed and Sofa (Finborough); Beware Soft Mud (Vineyard Theatre, New York); The Great British Soap Opera (Jermyn Street/Edinburgh); Jet Set Go! (Jermyn Street/ Theatre503/Edinburgh); Soul Music and Mort (Rose Theatre, Kingston).

Drama school productions include: Soho Cinders and Betty Blue Eyes (ArtsEd, London) and Hands on a Hardbody, Lysistrata Jones and She Loves Me (Guildford School of Acting).

As Associate Director: Matilda (RSC, Stratford-upon-Avon; West End and Broadway) and Singin’ in the Rain (Chichester Festival Theatre and West End).

As Assistant Director: Into the Woods (Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park); Private Lives (Salisbury Playhouse) and Hamlet (Tobacco Factory).

As Movement Director:The Music of Chance (National Theatre Studio); Peter Pan andThe Wizard of Oz (Wilde Theatre); First Lady Suite (Union) and Force 9 1/2 (Theatre Workshop/Upstairs at the Gatehouse).
